Belize (again!)

In July 2013, we paused in our de-cluttering of the house ready for sale, and went back to ReefCI in Belize for a couple of weeks’ diving and reef conservation work.

Polly and her wonderful team were ready for us, and off we went! I felt I had learned a lot about underwater photographer from Polly the previous year, and I was anxious to start photographing again.

Unfortunately the underwater visibility was not as good as the previous year, due to rain washing down the rivers, but I still enjoyed it immensely. And once again, we had the satisfaction of knowing we were doing our small part to collect information on the health of the reef in southern Belize, and the various species living there. We spent a lot of time spearing lionfish, as always. This is an ongoing effort to eradicate this beautiful, but non-indigenous species, from the Caribbean. They arrived by accident, and are decimating the local juvenile reef fish. It’s a huge problem, that is being steadily addressed. We’re still doing our bit.
