Duck confit anyone?

Who says English food isn’t good? We visited the Real Food Market on London’s South Bank, for lunch today, and it was awesome! A collection of pop-up food stalls, with a seating area, with the most amazing smells wafting around! Korean burritos, Indian street food, mulled wine and Turkish delight.

Gorgeous cakes, pirogis and pies, hummus and salads. Ethiopian coffee beans, heirloom tomatoes, roast chestnuts! Crepes and curries, beautiful bread, smoked salmon, cheese and charcuterie, my mouth is watering just remembering all the luscious goodies available there 🙂

There are several Real Food Markets around (check out their website), the one we visited is just down the road from Waterloo station, next to the Festival Hall. It was a brisk blowy day, but the place was packed with ordinary London workers, enjoying a delicious break from work, or picking up some veg or bread to take home.

What did we eat? I had the duck confit burger, with a choice of melted cheese (I chose blue). The richness of the duck, merged with the salty blue cheese, with hints of sweet truffle honey running through it. I crunched into duck skin scratchings, and enjoyed the slight sharpness of homemade chutney. All this was piled onto an airy brioche bun, with a few rocket leaves, to pretend you were eating your greens 😉  Oh yeah, there’s some food porn right there! It was worth every single penny of the £6 (GBP) I forked over for it! My companion tucked into slow-cooked lamb in a spicy sauce, with salad and yoghurt, wrapped in a naan bread. He managed to finish it while I was still queueing up for the hugely popular duck confit, so it must have been good!

We walked over Hungerford Bridge and along the Embankment, in an effort to walk off some calories! I do love London 🙂
