We love scuba diving, and have been fortunate to have enjoyed it in many beautiful locations. We don’t have video of every dive location we’ve been to, but we try! And yes, maybe we have a little adrenaline junky in us too, as we have really enjoyed bungy jumping in Queenstown, New Zealand, and ziplining in Belize and Costa Rica. Crazy? you decide ūüėČ

Belize is turning into one of our favourite places! We first visited in 1996, right after certifying as SCUBA divers. We’ve now been back four times (so far!) We love going to Punta Gorda, in the southernmost part of Belize, and diving with dive conservation company¬†ReefCI on the beautiful Sapodilla Cayes. Here are some dive videos, and some land videos! Mayan ruins of Lubaantun

The Mayan ruins of Lubaantun¬†(“the place of the fallen stones”) are in southern Belize, in the Toledo District, just outside the village of San Pedro Colombia.¬†The ruins are quiet and peaceful, surrounded by deep, lush jungle. ¬†There is debate about what these buildings were, why they were built, why the society that lived here didn’t apparently stay long. There is lots of debate.

PG Day 2015!

Yesterday was the 118th anniversary of PG Day, celebrating the establishment of the town of Punta Gorda, Belize. Punta Gorda is the southernmost town in the small central American country of Belize, close to the border with both Guatemala and Honduras. There are at least five distinct cultures who make their home here.

A day in Punta Gorda

This is our fifth visit to Belize,

PG
FLYING IN OVER PUNTA GORDA

our third trip to Punta Gorda, and this time we’ll be staying for five weeks, diving with ReefCI and then renting an apartment and just hanging with the locals. ¬†For our first few days here we’re staying at our favourite local inn, the Coral House Inn, before we head out to Tom Owens Caye with ReefCI. This morning when we got up, we saw that the pool palapa roof was being re-thatched. Pedro and the guys were working the traditional way, it was enthralling!

Central America coming up!

You may know that Chris and I have sold everything and are permanent travellers. We are mixing in working as volunteers on various conservation projects, with travelling and staying in interesting places, and living as much as possible with the locals. We’ve just spent Christmas in England with family, after a wonderful three months in South Africa, and we’re off again in a couple of days’ time!

We’ll be taking a one-way cruise from Southampton to Fort Lauderdale, on the beautiful¬†Cunard¬†ship Queen Elizabeth.

We’ll be relaxing, and no doubt eating too much!
