Housesitting

Housesitting can be a good way to experience a more “local” kind of living, and a great way to save money too!  We were asked to stay in, and look after the home of a long-time friend, while we were in California, and so we decided to investigate further. Continue reading Housesitting

Central America coming up!

You may know that Chris and I have sold everything and are permanent travellers. We are mixing in working as volunteers on various conservation projects, with travelling and staying in interesting places, and living as much as possible with the locals. We’ve just spent Christmas in England with family, after a wonderful three months in South Africa, and we’re off again in a couple of days’ time!

We’ll be taking a one-way cruise from Southampton to Fort Lauderdale, on the beautiful Cunard ship Queen Elizabeth.

We’ll be relaxing, and no doubt eating too much!

Monterey & Big Sur California

At the end of November 2013, we sold and left the beautiful place we had called home for 20 years in San Jose, and set out on our journey through the rest of our lives. We love Monterey and the beautiful Big Sur coast of California, so we spent a couple of days revisiting old loves. Here’s some photos to remind us:

Monterey & Big Sur & places south!

When we left San Jose in early December 2013, we decided to spend a little time in one of our favourite areas, Monterey and Big Sur – the beautiful coastline south of Monterey and Carmel.  So we booked a couple of nights in Monterey and visited the aquarium, one last time. Then we wandered slowly down the Big Sur coast, stopping to enjoy the amazing scenery. We were lucky that at this time of year, some of the elephant seals are around on San Simeon beach, near Hearst Castle. They’re always fun to watch.

Death Valley

Death Valley is just stunning. It’s hard to find words that haven’t been used before. The colours and shapes are endlessly beautiful, the sense of vastness, of infinite age are awe-inspiring. We went in February 2013, and it was pretty warm then. I almost can’t imagine how hot it gets in the summer! Since my words are not new I’ll let the photos speak for themselves. If you go, take plenty of water!
